Because it is so energy consuming to keep convincing yourself that there is no point in anything, keep on and making sure that the fact you are doing it stays hidden even from yourself. It is a very energy inefficient strategy to avoid any risks. Maybe this is why people with depression are exhausted. And the more they want to get out of it the more energy it requires to stay there, so the more "depressed" they get? That would also explain why it is so hard to treat it.

Also, it would mean that the more to risk you have the more likely you are to become depressed. Makes some sense, doesn't it?

That would mean that one should never take decisions being in that "nothing makes sense anyway" state because the risk assessment skills are simply not there. So it is not about not making decisions when depressed, but to be more specific, not making decisions from a general "nothing makes sense anyway" standpoint.. which is my default standpoint. Hmm.
